Devi is a strong collection of poems and photographs, supporting and supplementing each other. The lucidity of its poems is intimate and engaging. One has to learn a lot from these poems, particularly about womanhood and love. As the poet writes, “it is a journey through the soul of a woman.” It is difficult to come across poems which deal with this subject without the tone getting strident. These poems however are quiet and meditative, like that of a memorable song. One fondly recalls one of Ted Hughes’s books of poetry with pictures. ~ Bibhu Padhi
